CHALLENGERS

100/10

WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN? This movie made its way to my top 3 favorite movies instantly. The cinematography, the character depth, the aesthetic, the stakes/tension, the soundtrack, everything is FLAWLESS. It all was wrapped up in a beautiful tennis-themed bow, even the timeline bounced back and forth like a tennis match. Some people have said they hate Patrick like you clearly don’t get it. Yes, he’s an asshole but he has REASONS. He got in a fight with his girlfriend and got blamed for her entire career falling apart, which led to his life basically crumbling to shit. Art was way too adored like sure he was nice but he sort of got in both Patrick and Tashi’s heads and insinuated their fight and then just swooped in and took Tashi for himself and never gave Patrick another chance after their year-long friendship; while Patrick still loved Art so much like UGH. They’re all hateable yet so lovable at the same time like Tashi is a cunt but her whole life got destroyed and she ended up with Art, who has no backbone and can never be as great as her (Patrick could though… just saying) And she knew that… that’s why they FUCKED!!! As much as she wanted to dismiss him, she couldn’t help but acknowledge how talented he was and all she cared about was tennis, so of course she was going to cling to someone who could continue to feed her hunger, especially when she was stuck watching Art be just good when she knew SHE could’ve been great!!! Anyway anyway…. I know y’all want me to talk about the threesome-ish scene. I can feel you begging through the screen you horny bastards. I would give up a kidney to see that scene for the first time again. It’s so hot juicy steamy oozing sexiness mixed with the music build-up I can’t. And Tashi sitting back watching the boys kiss like ohhhh you evil genius. My one (1) flaw with the film was how long it took for Patrick to make the infamous gesture during his match with Art. It felt like less of a shock because they dragged it for so long that even if you didn’t initially know it was going to happen, you’d know by the time it finally did. Like ok, I GET IT CMON. The very end felt so cathartic and freeing knowing they all finally felt something after feeling like shit for so long. Tashi finally got to witness a good tennis match and Art and Patrick found their way back to each other while proving to themselves that they are capable of greatness. Overall, GMOT (greatest movie of all time), I’m in love with Josh O’Connor (madly…), and yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah.
