Jesus Christ…….. This might be one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I can’t even begin to describe how bad this was, but I’m gonna try. First of all, M. Night Shyamalan cast his daughter as the pop star of the concert that the whole movie was based around and half the film was just her performing as an Ariana Grande dupe; like she was good but seriously what was the point. I thought from the little snippets and trailers, that it was going to be a bit more of a whodunnit situation where the audience might actually have doubts on if the dad is guilty or not, but it could not have been more clear that it was him, in the worst way. Every single time his daughter would be like “Dad, you’re acting kind of weird :(“ he’d be like “WHAT… haha.. no honey.. I just think it would be fun if we maybe went to the basement right now.. speaking of.. erm.. I have to go check on something for the 47th time.. but don’t fret, I’m still the best dad for bringing you here and I love you.” Weird ass freak boy. It was just so painfully awkward, lingering, and cringe. The MOST painstakingly awful scene was the one where the pop star took the dad’s phone, locked herself in the bathroom, and proceeded to go on Instagram live preaching to her fans that he’s a killer and to send the cops. It was soooo long and it was just her trying to cry but nothing coming out and cheesy ass comments flooding in on a horrible AI-looking rendition of insta live. The ending when it was revealed that the wife was actually the one that tipped off the cops to scope the concert like YAWNNNN. Give me something JUICY goddamit have her be working with him or stab him like do something I’m bored. And then the ending wasn’t even satisfying because he got out which insinuates there’ll be a second movie like NOOO DONT!!! WE DON'T WANT IT!!! It feels like they wanted to make an iconic and unique horror film and instead, it just felt like a cheap cash grab and horrible homage to other psycho-thrillers. Overall, this was the biggest waste of my time/money and if you wanted to put someone through cruel and unusual punishment, have them watch this on a loop.
